SERRE
You now travel past a church on your right. Keep straight on until the High Street veers left - there is a house ahead of you with a green lawn in front of it - take a lane just to the right. There is a 10t weight limit sign. After about 250 yards you arrive at a small cross roads - go straight over - after 50 yards go past an old ruined barn on your right. Soon you will reach a fork in the road - take the left hand fork. Shortly you will see farm buildings ahead. This is Touvent Farm. The original farm was destroyed in 1915 and the new one is actually built north east of the original.

About 200yards after passing Touvent Farm, stop and look to your right. You will see a narrow strip of woodland and to its right there is the Cross of Sacrifice in Railway Hollow Cemetery.

Railway Hollow Cemetery taken from the park entrance
Railway Hollow is about 150 yards behind the British front lines of 1st July 1916. On the other side of the road are three more cemeteries lying in front of the British front lines. Looking ahead on this road are the first houses from the village of Serre. The village was an objective of the July 1916 battle but was, in fact, never captured in combat.

Carry on down this road, but, shortly before reaching a T - junction at the main road you will see a line of bushes and small trees.
