The line of trees approach but don't quite reach the right hand side of the road. It is about 150 yards before you reach a concrete water tower. At the point where the trees nearly meet the road, stop and look along them. You could once see clear evidence of the old German front line trenches but on my last visit in September 2000, the local farmer seemed to have cleared and ploughed up a lot of the old German trenches in this location.
Carry on to the T - junction and turn right - you may notice shell scarred ground on your right. About 250 yards further on and to the left you will see a large crucifix, but, before that, and on your right, is a memorial to the Sheffield City Battalion. This was one of the Pals Battalions that fought in this area on 1st July.
